Frequently Asked Questions

FAQs

1. What can I expect from my first session?

Your first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and begin building a foundation of trust. We’ll talk about what brings you to therapy, your goals for counseling, and your history related to your current concerns. It’s also a chance for you to ask me any questions about the therapy process, my approach, and what you can expect moving forward. The first session is focused on creating a safe space where you feel comfortable and heard.

2. How long does each session last?

Individual sessions are 53 minutes.

Couples sessions are ideally 75 minutes but can also be 60 minutes if you have time constraints.

3. How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions you need will depend on your individual goals and the issues you're working through. Some people find relief after just a few sessions, while others may benefit from longer-term therapy. We will regularly check in together to assess progress and adjust the plan as needed.

Most people start out doing weekly therapy and then transition to every other week.

4. What types of therapy do you offer?

I offer a variety of evidence-based approaches tailored to meet your unique needs. Some of the
therapies I specialize in include:

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS): To help you connect with and heal different parts of yourself.

  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT): Focused on deepening emotional connections in relationships.

  • Brainspotting: To process trauma and emotional blockages.

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): To challenge negative thought patterns and improve coping skills.

  • Somatic/Polyvagal Therapy: To address the body’s response to trauma and stress.

We’ll work together to determine the best approach based on your needs.

5. Is therapy confidential?

Yes, confidentiality is a cornerstone of therapy. Everything we discuss in sessions will remain private, with a few exceptions outlined by law (e.g., if there is a risk of harm to yourself or others). I’ll explain these exceptions at the beginning of our work together so you can feel fully comfortable and safe.

6. Do you work with individuals, couples, or both?

I work with individuals, couples, and families. Whether you're navigating personal challenges, relationship struggles, or family dynamics, I can offer support tailored to your needs. If you’re a couple, I specialize in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), which is proven to help couples build deeper emotional connections. The family work I do is with a parent (s) and their adult child(ren).

7. Do you accept insurance? What is the cost?

I do not currently accept insurance directly, but I can provide you with a superbill to submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement. I recommend checking with your insurance company to understand your out-of-network benefits. If cost is a concern, I also have a few sliding scale spots available for those in need. However, if I do not have any sliding scale spots available at the time that you reach out, I recommend checking out Open Path Collective.

The cost for individual sessions is $165. The cost for couple’s sessions is $195. I accept payment from HSA and FSA accounts.

8. How do I know if therapy is right for me?

Therapy can be helpful for anyone who is feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or looking to make positive changes in their life. If you are experiencing anxiety, depression, relationship struggles, trauma, grief, or other life challenges, therapy can provide you with the tools and support you need to navigate these issues. During the consultation call, we can discuss your goals and whether therapy feels like the right path for you.

9. What if I don’t know what I want to work on in therapy?

That’s okay! Many people come to therapy unsure of what they want to work on or feeling overwhelmed by different issues. Our first few sessions can be focused on exploring what’s most important to you, identifying patterns, and helping you clarify your goals. Therapy is a process, and together we’ll discover what feels most meaningful for you to address.

10. How can I get started?

To get started, simply reach out to me by phone, email, or the contact form on this website. We’ll schedule a brief consultation to discuss what you're looking for in therapy and answer any questions you might have. From there, we can schedule your first session and begin the journey toward healing and growth. However, you are never obligated to schedule a first session after the consultation call. Finding the right fit is what is most important for you and I realize I will not always be the right fit for every person.

11. What if I’m nervous about starting therapy?

It’s completely normal to feel nervous about starting therapy! Many people feel uncertain or vulnerable at the beginning. My goal is to create a safe, non-judgmental space where you can feel comfortable sharing at your own pace. We’ll take it step by step, and you’re always in control of the pace and direction of our work together. It can be normal for it to take a while to ease into the process.

12. Can therapy be done online? What about in-person options?

Yes, I offer online therapy sessions for clients who prefer the convenience and comfort of remote sessions. Online therapy can be just as effective as in-person sessions and provides flexibility for clients with busy schedules or those living in different locations (throughout Georgia and Florida). We’ll use a secure video platform to ensure your privacy. I offer in-person therapy in Peachtree City, GA on Mondays and Thursdays.
